What is Veloid?

Veloid is an application designed to make your life easier if you are a user of free bike systems such as Velib in Paris.
Veloid runs under Android, the OS made by Google for cellular phone.

It is designed to work well both for regular users—displaying bike availability at favorite stations in the main screen—and for occasional users or those biking with friends—with an integrated timer and filter to find nearby stations with a certain number of bikes or free places available.

There is a limitation with Nextbike networks, the available slots are not available (always shows 0) and the number of available bikes in stations is never more than 5, even if the real number of available bikes is more.

As soon as Veloid starts, favorite stations are displayed (no click needed) and indicates the number of free slots and bikes at each one.
The selected bike sharing network is displayed on the top of the application. You can change your network without any loss of favorites.

Imagine this situation: you are spending a few weeks on holiday and you don't know if the stations nears your hotel have available bikes. Not to worry, as you leave your hotel Veloid will give you the answer instantly. And when you are returning to your hotel late at night you want to use a free bike again. Veloid indicates if there’s space available for you to park your bike in a station near your hotel.

Also, directly from the main screen, you (and your friends) can easily find the nearest station with one (or up to four) free bike(s) ... or free parking slots.

The configurable timer helps save you money. Often free biking systems are only free for an initial period of 30 minutes. Beyond that you pay extra charges.
Thanks to the timer, you can use your bike without worry and, about 5 minutes before your free time is up, configure an alarm to sound and you will be automatically geolocated to find stations near you with free slots. You can even check to find stations with both free slots and free bikes if you and your friends want to switch bikes and continue your ride.

Main functions

Overall

Available in French, English and Spanish.
The station list is loaded from the network. Latitude and longitude of stations are stored in database.

Favorites

  • Direct display of the free bikes and slots at your favorite stations.
  • You can add a favorite by indicating full or partial information about the station (e.g. : just part of the address)
  • You can add a favorite near an address

Search for stations

  • Express search: find nearby stations with a certain number of free bikes/slots
  • By entering an address (you can then use the filter)
  • Manual geolocation
  • Around the center of the displayed map
  • Automatic geolocation after the timer stop

Timer

  • Configurable
  • Timer runs in the background, Veloid does not have to remain open. The timer status can be checked or cancelled at any time.
  • Upon cancelling the timer, a geolocation search for stations can be done
  • Filtered geolocation available when the timer ends

Filter

  • On the number of desired bikes available
  • On the number of desired parking slots
